Details of 2017/2018 unilorin post-UTME screening





2017/2018 post-UTME: Unilorin screens 48,666 admission seekers

As the 2017/2018 admission exercise gets underway, no fewer than 48, 666 admission seekers sat for the post-UTME screening last week to test their eligibility for admission into the University of Ilorin.
The six-day long screening exercise held seamlessly at two centres – Ilorin and Lagos – between Monday (September 11, 2017) and Saturday (September 16, 2017).
For the fourth consecutive year, the University of Ilorin again emerged the most subscribed university by admission seekers this year, with more than 104,000 candidates picking the University as their preferred institution in the last Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) moderated admission application. Out of these, 59,045 scored 180 and above in the Universal Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME), qualifying them for the screening exercise, which is the last stage of the admission process
A total 49, 631 candidates registered for the screening exercise, which is entirely CBT based.



A breakdown of the number of candidates examined each day shows that on Day One of the exercise (Monday, September 11, 2017), 11,400 candidates were screened at both centres with the Ilorin Centre having 7, 800 candidates while 3, 565 candidates presented themselves for screening at the Lagos Centre.
However, 46 candidates were absent at the Ilorin Centre while 35 failed to show up at the Lagos Centre.
On Day Two (Tuesday, September 12, 2017), a total of 11, 325 candidates were examined with the Ilorin Centre having 7, 745 applicants and 3, 580 in Lagos.
On Day Three (Wednesday, September 13, 2017), 11,250 applicants were screened, 3509 in Lagos and 7741 in Ilorin.
On Day Four (Thursday, September 14, 2017), 10, 903 admission seekers were screened with Lagos centre accounting for 3, 195 candidates while 7, 708 candidates were examined at the Ilorin Centre.
On Day Five (Friday, September 15, 2017), a total of 3, 578 were screened at both centres with Ilorin having 3, 549 candidates and Lagos having only 29 candidates.
On Day Six (Saturday, September 16, 2017) 103 candidates were examined in a mop up exercise at the Ilorin Centre.

A major feature of the screening exercise was the prompt release of the result less than five hours after the completion of the examination each day. Candidates were just required to check their results online via the Unilorin admission portal by login in with their JAMB Registration Number and their Surname.
In a chat with Unilorin Bulletin in his office, the Director of the Computer Services and Information Technology Centre (COMSIT), the administrators of the screening exercise, Prof. M. O. Yusuf, disclosed that the exercise went on smoothly in both centres with only one incident of impersonation recorded.
The COMSIT Director added that the registration portal, which was earlier slated to be closed last Thursday (September 14, 2017) “remained opened till Sunday, September 17, 2017 for the second batch candidates whose list was being expected from the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) as well as those who needed to upload their NECO results and pictures, among others”.
Meanwhile, candidates that participated in the post-UTME screening have expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the examination, describing it as one of the most successful examinations they have ever attended.
Some of the candidates who spoke with Unilorin Bulletin commended the University authorities for the machineries put in place for the conduct of the examination.
They observed that the examination process was hitch-free with the environment conducive for candidates.
One of the candidates, Mudathir Abdulmalik Benya, described the University's environment and the halls used for the screening as ideal for any examination, even as he commended the University management for its awareness creation on the mode of dressing in the University.

“In fact, the whole University's environment was very conducive. What impressed me more was the way they were creating awareness on the way we should dress as would-be students of their University."
Another candidate, Bature Shukurat, said she was not disappointed in the University over the conduct of the post-UTME screening, saying the University is reputed for best standards.
"Well, I can say I am not disappointed over the screening at all, because Unilorin is known for standard. So everything they do should be properly handled", she said.
